JOHN WELBORN, Sr., b. 1580, Ledsham, Yorkshire, England, Spouse unknown

Note:  He was shipwrecked in Bermuda on the Sea Venture in December 1609 on the way to Jamestown to relieve the first settlers.  This was one of a fleet of six ships, the other five of which made the crossing to Jamestown without incident.  The captain of the Sea Venture was Captain Sommers.  The crew claimed Bermuda for England, then built two vessels, Deliverance and Patience, and sailed in the spring to Jamestown, arriving 24 May 1610.
