20th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Russell's) 20th (Russell's) Cavalry Regiment, also called 15th Regiment, was organized in February, 1864. Its members were recruited in the counties of Henry, Gibson, Carroll, Madison, Dyer, Humphreys, and Weakley, Tennessee. The unit was placed in Colonel (later Brigadier General) Tyree H. Bell's Brigade of the Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, and fought at Okolona (Mississippi), Brice's Cross Roads (Mississippi), and Harrisburg (Mississippi). Later, it skirmished in Middle Tennessee, was part of General John Bell Hood's operations in the Battles of Franklin (Tennessee) and Nashville (Tennessee), before moving back into Mississippi. The regiment ended the war in Gainesville, Alabama and was paroled on May 3, 1865. At this time the regiment contained only 29 officers and 217 men. The field officers were Colonel Robert M.
